Good evening, friends.
So, things are happening in LA right now. More Marines have been deployed, Trump called for Newsom’s arrest, and Newsom is suing the Trump administration for their illegal actions against California with the military. Democracy is fighting hard, and I’m so proud of everyone protesting and fighting for actual liberty and justice for all.
So, with all of the anxiety inducing news, I have some good news. Let’s grab our tea (or vodka or wine or tequila or beer or-) and get into it.
Good News Monday:
-Record-Breaking Sunshine Sparks Solar Surge in the UK:
The UK had its sunniest spring on record, and it generated a record amount of solar energy. This helped cut down gas imports and gave a huge boost to clean, local power. (The Guardian)
-Life Saved on the World’s Highest Mountain:
Weeks after being installed, a defibrillator at the Mount Everest Base Camp helped save a camper’s life. It was placed at the camp by David Sullivan, a CPR advocate, whose mission is to bring life saving equipment to high-risk areas. (BBC)
-Cancer Survival Has Doubled in 50 Years:
Cancer survival rates in England and Wales have doubled since the 1970s, according to Cancer Research UK. Experts say breakthroughs in tech and treatment are driving in a new area of hope in the field, although quicker diagnoses and care are still the biggest challenges. (Cancer Research UK)
-UK Bans Disposable Vapes
From June forward, it will be illegal to sell disposable vapes in the UK. This is being done to help reduce plastic/battery waste, reduce the youth vaping epidemic, and encouraging healthy alternatives. Refillable kits (like mods) will still be available, but disposable vapes are a thing of the past. (BBC)
As always, MAJOR thanks to @consciouslyelle on Instagram for supplying this news every week. Please go follow her if you need a serotonin boost, her account is absolutely amazing.
I have one more piece of good news… I’m officially going back to school! I became so fed up with the state of world and decided to start writing on Substack to help people in any way I could. This reminded me of how much I loved creating writing that connected with people, and also how much I started to enjoy writing about politics and world affairs. So, I’m going back with the intention of becoming a journalist, and then a professor. I’ll still be writing on here every day, and also starting my new publication, Syllabi and Sunsets. I’m incredibly excited about this new chapter, and I can’t wait to start.
You know the drill: I see you, I hear you, I love you, and I’m with you. If you’re in LA or surrounding areas I’m tonight, please stay safe and stay strong. I’ll see everyone tomorrow for Coffee with Ren ☕️🤎
Hooooray! Thank you!
My favorite post so far. I'm glad to hear you're going back to school with a renewed passion for writing. I wish you the best of luck (but you don't need it bc you're an amazing writer 😉).
